Privacy Policy

When you sign in with Google, learnthings receives your Google account name, email address, profile image, and an account identifier through Firebase Authentication. learnthings does not receive your Google password.

Content you choose to save can include topic and room names, URLs, page titles, YouTube video identifiers and playback times, notes, selected-text anchors, reading progress, notebook pages, images, screenshots, photos, and PDFs.

The extension acts only when you click its toolbar icon. It reads the active tab’s URL and title so it can show and save the page you selected. On a YouTube watch page, it also reads the current video playback second. It does not monitor tabs or browsing activity in the background.

The extension stores the identifiers of your last selected topic and room on your device for convenience. During a sign-in you initiate, a temporary offscreen page at learnthings.org completes Google authentication and returns the authentication result to the extension. The offscreen document closes when sign-in finishes or fails.

When you save or open a webpage, learnthings may ask its server to retrieve the URL you supplied to create a preview or a readable version. Reader text is sanitized and cached only for the signed-in learner who saved the page. Images may be fetched through the app when you explicitly choose to keep them.

The source website may receive a request from learnthings’ hosting provider. Opening an original page or embedded YouTube video also connects your browser directly to that third-party service, which applies its own privacy terms.

learnthings does not sell personal information, serve personalized advertising, build advertising profiles, or use your study material to determine eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or similar decisions.

learnthings uses Google Firebase for authentication, database storage, and file storage, and Vercel for application hosting and server-side requests. These providers process information on learnthings’ behalf to operate the service and may handle technical data such as IP addresses, browser details, request logs, timestamps, and error information under their own terms.

Information may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect users or the service from abuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or transfer of the service where the recipient must continue to protect it under this policy.

Data obtained through Chrome extension permissions is used only to provide or improve the extension’s user-facing single purpose: saving the page or YouTube video you selected to the learnthings topic and room you selected. It is not transferred for advertising, profiling, data brokerage, or an unrelated purpose.

Human access to user data is prohibited except with your specific consent for support, when necessary for security, to comply with law, or for aggregated and anonymized internal operations where permitted by Chrome Web Store policy.

Account data and saved study material are stored in Google Firebase. Images and PDFs are stored in Cloud Storage. Access rules restrict a learner’s private data to that authenticated account. Data is transmitted over encrypted HTTPS or WSS connections. No internet service can guarantee absolute security.

Information is retained while your account or saved content remains in the service. You can delete individual notes, sources, rooms, and topics in the app. Provider security logs and backups may remain for limited periods under provider retention practices. Uninstalling the extension removes its extension-local preferences but does not delete content already saved to your learnthings account.

You can review and delete saved material in the app, sign out, uninstall the extension, or revoke learnthings’ Google account access from your Google account settings. For an account-wide access, correction, export, or deletion request, use the verified publisher contact shown on the Save to learnthings Chrome Web Store listing. We may need to verify that the request belongs to the account.

learnthings is not directed to children under 13, and the service is not intended for use where parental consent is required but has not been provided. If you believe a child has provided personal information improperly, contact the publisher so it can be removed.

This policy may be updated as learnthings changes. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date on this page. Privacy questions and requests can be sent to the verified publisher contact displayed on the official Save to learnthings Chrome Web Store listing.
