The short version.
Eight short paragraphs, no defined terms, no schedules. If something here is unclear it is our fault and worth telling us about.
What this is
learnthings is a place to collect what you are learning and take notes against it. You can also publish a path — an ordered reading list — for other people to find and take. It is free while you study, and there is no trial clock.
Your material stays yours
You keep every right to the notes you write and the paths you arrange. We do not claim ownership of them. Publishing a path grants us permission to display it in the directory and grants other learners permission to take a copy — nothing more.
What you publish is public, and copies outlive it
A published path can be read, copied, quoted and taken by anybody. Every copy somebody takes lives in their own account from that moment. Taking your path down removes it from the directory and stops new copies being made — it cannot reach into copies that already exist, and neither can we. Do not publish anything you would need to be able to un-publish.
What you may not publish
Affiliate links of any kind. Spam, or anything published to move traffic rather than to teach. Material you do not have the right to link to. Anything illegal where you are or where we are. Content targeting or harassing a person. We can remove a path or close an account for any of these, and we will not always be able to explain in detail why.
We link out, we never mirror
Everything a path points at belongs to whoever made it and lives where they put it. We are a map. If you own something we link to and want it delinked, tell us and we will remove the link.
No promises about uptime
This is a small operation. It will occasionally be down, and things linked from it will occasionally break. Export your notes if they matter to you — the button is in your account, and it always will be.
Ending it
You can delete your account whenever you like, from the account dialog, and everything of yours goes with it. We can close an account that breaks the rules above. Either way, exporting first is one press and we would rather you did.
Changes
If these terms change in a way that matters, the change will be obvious rather than buried. Continuing to use learnthings after that is how you accept it.
